Use Google when...
- you need a current fact, price, schedule, address, or official source;
- you want to compare several websites or opinions;
- you need to see where the information came from;
- you are trying to reach a particular page.
Use ChatGPT when...
- you want something explained in a different way;
- you need to sort, summarize, draft, compare, or plan;
- you want to work with your own notes, files, or ideas;
- you want to ask follow-up questions without starting over.
The easiest example
Google question: “What time does the library close tonight?”
ChatGPT request: “Here are the six errands I need to do. Put them in the best order and tell me what I forgot.”
Sometimes you use both
Find the current, trustworthy information first. Then ask AI to help you understand it, compare it, or turn it into a plan. The important part is knowing whether you need a source or you need help thinking through the information.
